		<description><![CDATA[I hate the idea that just because a woman died under a midwife&#039;s care in this book means that the book is vilified by supporters of midwives.  A nuanced book such as this one deserves more than that.  Throughout the book, Sibyl was presented as a caring and competent woman who, because of circumstances beyond her control, ended up in a terrible situation.]]></description>

But, we&#039;re all human and ob/gyns kill people regularly so the idea that a midwife might be blamed for a woman&#039;s death didn&#039;t make the book worthless to me from the start, and the writing drew me in.]]></description>
