A nuanced book such as this one deserves more than that. Throughout the book, Sibyl was presented as a caring and competent woman who, because of circumstances beyond her control, ended up in a terrible situation.

But, we’re all human and ob/gyns kill people regularly so the idea that a midwife might be blamed for a woman’s death didn’t make the book worthless to me from the start, and the writing drew me in.
