fighting the darkness.

When I got home last night, I lit candles.

The light shines in the darkness. The darkness did not overcome it.

I got the Friday night pizza crust ready and poured myself a glass of wine.

Rituals are the raw material from which we can build of our lives a mountain of memories, offering us the chance to see that we have come from God and we are going to God, that we are inextricably connected to one another by the grace of God, and, even in the scope of so grand a universe, it matters that we celebrate with our signature dishes, over and over again. -Milton Brasher-Cunningham

I read poetry.

To a world like ours, of anguished shame he came, and his Light would not go out. -Madeleine L’Engle

I prayed.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ, give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

How do you fight the darkness?
