You’re gonna have to serve somebody

I had my last official deacon meeting tonight (we still have our covered dish Christmas party, as good Baptist deacons do) and at the end of it, as I was packing up my computer (I take the minutes), one of the older gentlemen who is also rotating off of the deacons came up to me and said, “Kari, it’s been a pleasure serving with you. Thank you for all your hard work.”

I started serving on the deacons when I was in the middle of a lot of big changes, and I don’t actually feel like I did what I would have wanted to do. But it’s conversations like that that make me thankful I had the opportunity to serve.
