Finding yourself in ways that you cannot even imagine is exactly what will happen within parenthood... and it does not end when the child is grown and on his own, an adult himself. Parts of a previous you may be lost or gone as you grow with your child, but those things will be replaced by wiser, stronger parts - that won't always feel wiser or stronger, but will ultimately be just that. Eyes that see more clearly, ears that hear more and understand, a heart that expands with each new adventure... And yes, your mom will feel like a hard act to follow (just like your grandma is a tough model to emulate), but you are not meant to be a mother like her. You will be a different mother, but you will be the mother that Atticus needs, because God is giving him to you and he knew what Atticus needs and what you need. None of us is perfect at this, but Atticus will know you love him and that is the most important thing of all.
