Pancakes definitely make you lower your expectations.

pancake making

This week’s Button Club task was to make blueberry pancakes. Though I am not fond of pancakes, I made a solid effort. And they weren’t bad, really. For pancakes, they were pretty good. Mike said he wished they’d been sweeter so that we didn’t have to use syrup at all, which is a plan I could get behind. However, I really just wanted to eat the sausage.

Readers, do you put syrup on your sausage? Because Mike does, and it is a point of major disagreement in our house. Weigh in on this important issue. And check out an adorable picture of Big Bunny eating a pancake over at my Button Club post.

I’m pretty sure Dad used to dip his sausage in the syrup when we had pancakes.

  2. I put syrup on my sausage, bacon and eggs!

  3. The answer is yes. Absolutely yes. (and on bacon, too.)

  4. Let me be the first to back you, Kari. I don’t intentionally put syrup on much of anything besides pancakes and/or waffles. If it gets on something [sausage, eggs, etc.] it’s not like I won’t refuse to eat it, but … it’s not my favorite, to be sure.

  5. I’m with Geof and Kari on this one. The delicious flavor of sausage or bacon should not be masked with a bunch of syrup. And the thought of syrup on eggs is just nasty.

I don’t specifically put syrup on my sausage or bacon, but I do dip them into a small amount of the syrup that has made its way off the pancake. I’m generally not a sweet and savory together kind of guy, but this is an exception.

I do, however, loathe things like the McGriddle, which has tried to capitalize on such flavor combinations.

  7. Mentioning the McGriddle is enough to make me vomit in my mouth.

  8. NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Mike seems like a lovely person in general, but the horror must stop. Sausage is meant to be savory and meaty!

  9. I need one more person to take my side. So I can at least be in a tie. I don’t want to lose on my own blog.

I am on your side. It was your dad who used the syrup.

  11. ok, so i don’t like syrup on my pancakes. i’d prefer them with fresh fruit and sprinkled with powdered sugar, but if there is none of that available, i usually just eat them plain. are we in the lead now? ;)

  12. I don’t know. I mean, that’s a good vote, because I am anti-syrup in general, but would you put syrup on your sausage? It seems like something you might do, Ms. M&Ms + popcorn. :)

I must confess that I eat sausage biscuits with grape jelly on them. Maybe I got it from my brother. HE HE

  14. I don’t specifically put syrup ON the sausage, but I will use the last bite to mop up the extra syrup at the end of the meal.

And sausage biscuits and grape jelly are a combo made in heaven, Barbi, so you are totally in the right there. :)

I totally eat sausage with syrup. Also, bacon. Occasionally eggs, though I seem to have grown out of that somewhat. But hello, PIGS IN A BLANKET. One of the most delicious breakfast foods available.

  16. Pigs in a blanket have syrup on them? I thought they were just hot dogs wrapped in some kind of bread. Or are you just saying you dip them?

  17. Popcorn & M&Ms is awesome!

    And … I’mamcgriddlefandon’thateme.

I can’t help it! I actually haven’t had one in a year and now all this talk is making me crave one.

  18. Oooh! Maybe this can turn into a food confessional! Confess your food sins here!

I am inordinately fond of those little pizza bite things. What are they called? I haven’t had them in years, but when I see commercials on TV or ads in magazines, I always crave them.

  19. Pizza rolls! That’s what I meant. I hadn’t had my coffee yet.

When I was young I put potato chips in my banana sandwiches. Does that constitute a confession?

  23. @Carol: Do you mean, like, last week?

    Posted 5/18/2010 at | Permalink
  24. Carol

    Of course…. That’s when I was young.
