1. Well, did you write the letter? They might give you another gift card.
2. How does Mike feel about you bringing up problems like this in public? I sometimes take after my mother in being overly aggressive, but Amanda hates it.
3. (Most important) Did they change your napkin (or Mike's) to match your outfit? One of the only things I remember from eating at Expensive National Chain Steak Restaurant was that they switched napkins so we wouldn't get the wrong color fuzz on our thighs.

As a real life cranky old lady ( not really, I am too soft on everyone, but I have lately become so annoyed at the retail world and it's lack of consideration and just plain common sense, that I have begun to occasionally complain) I hope that you did write that letter. They need to hear it, and in the retail world it is well known that for every letter that is written, there are hundreds of people who feel the same way and did not write. Common sense dictates that if two people are eating together in a restaurant, especially the Expensive national Chain Restaurant, it is occasion enough that they would enjoy some space when it it is clearly possible. So there.

I appreciate all the righteous indignation on my behalf. Do you feel strongly that it would be worth my time to complain? Because I am undecided.

sounds like you need to contact the Expensive National Chain Steak Restaurant's corporate office to let them know how the manager treated you. also how he treated you like that despite the fact that there were only 4 people in the entire restaurant. i'm sure they would be open to hearing how they are not making as much money as they should. the least the manager he could have done was accept some blame. sure, the person who was wronged could have said something, but you shouldn't have wronged them in the first place! ARGH! now i'm angry at this guy, and i wasn't even wronged, it's just the concept of his stupid arrogance, and he's a freaking manager of a restaurant.

I have always wondered why a restaurant would seat people next to each other like that - in fact it is one of my pet peeves. If I seat myself, I always get as far away as possible from other people, and if they attempt to seat me next to someone when there is a lot of extra room, I will often ask for somewhere else. (I am sure the other people are not offended by that, but are instead grateful, as I would be.) Maybe it is so their servers don't have to walk as far, but it doesn't make sense for the customers. I can't really think of a graceful way to get out of the situation you were in - no matter what you did, it would have been awkward. The manager, however, certainly was not doing his job. I can't imagine anyone in the service industry treating his customers like that! Maybe you should write a letter to the home office since taking it to the top of the local level sure didn't work. We all know you are good at expressing yourself with words.

That's true. However, I wonder whether you are moved to help us out of compassion or a desire to get some steak. hee hee hee.
