Elaine: I'm in North Carolina. We have been a red state for the past several elections, but I have seen some recent polls in which we were listed as "undecided." I have no idea if those polls are any more accurate than the poll I conducted, however.

i had a W'04 sticker on my car in 2004, but that's the only time i've ever put a sticker or anything like that for a candidate. they're all a bunch of crooks!

my run would probably result in a 0-0 tie, but i'll look around again tonight. my neighborhood just isn't the yard sign kind of place.

I have a local Congressional candidate sign in my yard but need to get an Obama sign. I'm still waiting on my Obama-Biden car magnet that I received for contributing to the campaign. Oh well!

I live in Alabama where we will definitely go for McCain, much to my demise. But in my neighborhood I've seen a dramatic increase in Obama yard signs. Yay! Of course, I've seen a few McCain (even a NObama sign). I need to take my camera with me on a run soon and do a post on this.

Great post!

Its funny to see how some areas have Obama stickers and signs all over and then other parts are more McCain. I haven't been reading your blog long enough to know (or maybe just remember) where you are, but I live in VA just outside of DC and I see 5 Obama stickers to 1 McCain sticker... and way more Obama signs than McCain (although those have just started popping up). I went to PA for the weekend and saw many more McCain stickers than Obama. (For the record I do have an Obama sticker on my car:)

I totally agree with you on the political signs - they don't change anyone's opinions. Except (as you pointed out) providing name recognition for the local elections. If anything they just make the yard owner feel like they are doing something to help their candidate out.
