This cake looks so nummy I cant wait to start baking it… UMMM Thanks for sharing… Its always nice to share the fav family recipes with others… Otherwise those wonderfull taste buds wld just go to waist… I just hate the type of people that are like Omy my cake is so good but you can never have the recipe cuz its a family secert… Or they just leave out the most imp part of a recipe so you cant make it like them… Seriously what is wrong with those kind of people… ITS ALL ABOUT “SHARING” the “LOVE”

No, you can’t taste the coffee at all. You only use a little. The coffee is strongly overpowered by all the sugar. hehe.

So does the cake end up having a really prominent coffee taste when you use the coffee to thin the icing?

Yeah, it can be kind of hard . . . the first time I did it, when I was in college, I didn’t realize that you should put the two flat parts of the cake together, so it was all lopsided. This time I had trouble with the icing on the sides, especially. I usually make cakes in casserole dishes, a la the flag cake.

(Those lumps are margarine. I’m melting margarine.)

if gap ever does a cooking magazine, you should definitely be in it! “kari is modeling the women’s jeans while baking a cake”.

and are layer cakes the two cakes and icing? i thought those were supposed to be easy? i have cake mix in my pantry, because i thought one time at the store that “hey, i should make a cake this weekend”, but then i got home and realized i don’t have anything to put a cake in, and i can’t really wrap it in foil. i’m still working on that.

are the lumps from those marshmallows you put in the icing in picture #3?
