Kari,
I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks, skipping back and forth between the past and present entries, so I suppose it is significant that this one finally forced a response! I was presenting Crossing to Safety to my book club and was looking for the poem in its entirety wehn I was led to your blog. I have loved the book for many years - when I worked in a book store we sold more that all the other stores combined because I handed it out as often as possible. Your comments about it were lovely, and it made me want to read more . And so I have.
I love this entry and I feel very much the same way about the book. I wouldn't say I loved it without caveat, but it certainly made me think of mortality and eternity and love and connection in sad and hopeful ways.
Most of all I want to say - if you get notice of past comments at all! - that I love your writing, your thoughts and almost certainly your spirit. What a treasure to happen upon on a busy day!

SOME MINOR SPOILERS

I just finnished the book now. I really liked the way Audray are able to write sides of the charachters in different ages. Specially to Clare the ages was writen very beliveable.
I must admit that the reason I read the book was the time travel-aspect in the book. I always been fond of time traveling and has special interests in books and movies with it. I liked the way the author right away was able to get the attions of the reader. I felt it was really excitening from the start. In the middle the excitement went down, but it turned up again at the end. Sometimes I had problems not to read it through, still I wanted the book to last as long as possible, so I keept my self from reading for days. When I felt the end was coming I really didnt want it to stop. I wish there was more. I wish the sadnes didnt occoure. I wish he was able to change it all at the end. And still, he couldnt do it.

As I read the book my interest for Alba was growing. I wanted to know more about her and the relationship with Henry. Also I wanted to know more of Clare. What did she do all the year till she met him again? Did she just wait? The last chapter about her as old meeting Henry again was very sad. Even when she was smiling, I couldne stop thinking what she was going through. You can say that Henry had some kind of curse with this diseas, but Clare had it too. He didnt choose it, neither did she.

It could be interesting if someone made a movie or mini tv-series of this book, but God I hope not Jennifer Aniston or Brad Pitt do have something with it. Nothing personal, just that they dont fit into the story.
